2014 Signing: Sam Jones

on

In his first two signing days classes at Arizona State, head coach Todd Graham has only signed three high school offensive linemen. The 2014 Look Ahead blog covering the Sun Devil offensive line reviewed the depth in that position group and determined that it was imperative for the coaching staff to add several talented high school offensive lineman. On Signing Day, Arizona State received a National Letter of Intent from offensive lineman Sam Jones from Thunderridge High School in Highland Ranch, Colorado.

Jones was selected by the Denver Post as an All-Colorado 1st Team offensive lineman in 2012 and 2013. Jones, a four-star recruit per ESPN and a three-star prospect on Scout and Rivals, chose Arizona State over Oregon and Kansas State. Jones officially committed to Arizona State a couple days after his official visit to Tempe, which was the weekend of the lopsided victory over the Washington Huskies. The other two official visitors that weekend, DJ Calhoun and Jalen Harvey, also officially committed to the Sun Devils.

Reviewing his high school highlight tape, Jones shows explosive ability off the snap along with great balance and flexibility often not seen in high school offensive lineman. Like most offensive lineman, Jones needs to add more bulk and strength in college while working on his hands in pass protection. With a redshirt year, Jones could be fighting for a starting spot in 2015 at tackle or guard for Sun Devil offensive line coach Chris Thomsen.
