2015 ASU Recruiting Update #4

The first 2015 Sun Devil Recruiting Update profiled the current verbal commitments to the Arizona State football program and projected how the class could finish out based on the current Sun Devil football roster by class. The second 2015 Sun Devil Recruiting Update examined the success of in-state recruiting for the Sun Devil coaching staff. In the third 2015 Sun Devil Recruiting Update, the national aspect of Arizona State recruiting is analyzed. This fourth 2015 Sun Devil Recruiting Update will focus on early signings for the 2015 class.

National Letter of Intent Signing

Last Wednesday, the Sun Devils received a signed NLI from junior college tight end Raymond Epps. Epps will enroll to Arizona State for the spring semester and participate in spring practice. Epps did not play this season at Arizona Western junior college due to injury, so he should have three years to play three seasons if granted a medical redshirt.

Grant-Aid Scholarship Paperwork

Mid year high school prospects who enroll into Arizona State in the spring sign scholarship paperwork. Sign scholarship paperwork is a grant-aid paperwork which ties the university and football program to that athlete. However, this does not tie the players to the university, only a NLI ties a player to the university. Earlier this fall, Arizona State received grant-aid scholarship paperwork from linebacker Nick Ralston and quarterback Brady White. While Arizona State fans did not get the verbal commitment it desired from Scottsdale Saguaro’s wide receiver Chrisitan Kirk, the Sun Devils did receive signed grant-aid scholarship paperwork from two high school prospects along the lines.

OL Steve Miller

The Gilbert High School offensive lineman will graduate high school early and join the Arizona State program. Miller chose the Sun Devils over reported offers from Utah, Washington, and Boise State.

DL George Lea

For the third year in a row, the Sun Devils will sign a defensive lineman from O. Perry Walker High School in New Orleans. Lea will join 2013’s Corey Smith and 2014’s Emanuel Dayries in Tempe. Lea chose the Sun Devils over reported offers from Kansas State, Washington State, Utah, and Colorado.
