Jordan Simone transformed from a walk-on transfer scout team member in 2013 to a team captain, All-Pac-12 honorable mention, preseason Thorpe and Nagurski award watch list player, and face of the Sun Devils defense over the past two years. Unfortunately, he will miss his second Territorial Cup game on Saturday due to injury. Even more heartbreaking, the fact that it would have been his last time running out of the Tillman Tunnel onto the green grass of Frank Kush field at Sun Devil Stadium.
The senior safety’s season comes to an end as he is leading the Pac-12 in solo tackles (74), second in total tackles, while also accounting for 4 sacks and 2 interceptions. As one of Todd Graham’s most aggressive players, he fit the personality of this defense like a glove.
Simone was a player that helped lead the Todd Graham cultural makeover in Tempe. While he may not have possessed the speed and athleticism of his former 2014 defensive partner Damarious Randall, no one could question the heart and effort he put forth while wearing the Arizona State uniform.
Thank you Jordan Simone, I’m sure you will tackle your future as fiercely as you hit opposing team’s running backs.
